Ivorian man held with drugs at Ahmedabad Airport

• Was carrying 20 plastic coated capsules in his rectum
• Drug capsules had to be delivered in Mumbai

Ahmedabad, August 23, 2018. Ahmedabad Police on Monday (August 21) nabbed Zohou Alexix, 39, a city of Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport with 20 capsules of a drug which prima facie appears to be cocaine hidden in his rectum. All the capsules were coated in a plastic film. The arrest came after a metal detector strangely went off.
According to Airport Police Station Inspector Narendra Parmar Alexix was travelling between Dubai and Mumbai but landed at Ahmedabad Airport on Monday to board a connecting flight. But when Alexix passed the metal detector manned by Central Industrial and Security Force (CISF) personnel, it went off. Alexix was taken to the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital in Asarwa. He was put through a sonography test which revealed the capsules in his rectum but no metal. Doctors at Civil Hospital succeeded in extracting 9 of the 20 capsules from his body.
“Alexix confessed he was carrying 20 capsules in his body, after which the medical procedure to extract them was begun,” said a police official. But the police are still clueless about how the metal detector went off if Alexix only had the capsules concealed in his body. A team of doctors at Civil Hospital is monitoring his condition. “He has been given laxatives to extract the remaining capsules,” said a doctor at Civil Hospital.
GNN learns now the Special Operations Group (SOG) will conduct the investigation. Samples of the suspected drug have also been dispatched to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to ascertain what the capsules contained. “It seems like the drug is cocaine but the FSL report will pinpoint more accurately on this. This was Alexix’s maiden trip to India. He was supposed to hand over the cocaine capsules to a Mumbai based person.
