- Eid al-Adha marks the willingness of Hazrat Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail to the wishes of Allah (SWT)
Ahmedabad, August 23, 2018. Eid-al-Adha (Bakri Eid) was celebrated all over Gujarat on Wednesday (August 22) with traditional religious fervour, sacrifice and special Eid namaaz.
Eid al-Adha marks the willingness of Hazrat Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail to the wishes of Allah (SWT). The day begins with offering of the special Eid namaaz followed by the ritualistic sacrifice and distribution of food amongst the poor. Traditional food and cuisine is always an integral part of the Eid al-Adha celebrations. Eid al-Adha usually calls for an elaborate spread of dishes comprising mutton korma, mutton curry, biryani and kababs.
However, GNN learns that with the demand for bigger goats taking a plunge, prices of goats and sheep plunged by 50%. This report learns that in the run up to Eid al-Adha goats usually command a premium. “However, this was not the case in 2018,” we hear. People opted for the smaller goats instead of the bigger ones. This resulted in goat prices coming down from Rs1lakh ($1426) to Rs50,000 ($713).
