Four barge into bungalow, rob couple at gunpoint

VADODARA: Four unidentified persons robbed a jeweller at gunpoint at his residence on the Old Padra Road on Thursday night. The accused took away gold jewellery, cash and mobile phones worth Rs 4.56 lakh from the bungalow of Harish Choksi in Charotar Society. A complaint of loot was registered at J P Road police station on Friday.
According to the police, the incident occurred when Choksi and his wife were at home. One of the accused rang the doorbell at about 9.30 pm. When Choksi opened the door, the accused said that he had brought a parcel to deliver. Before Choksi could react, the accused pushed him inside the house and soon three others too barged into the house, a TNN report said.
One of the gang members then pulled out a revolver and threatened Choksi and his wife Jagruti. They asked the couple to not raise alarm. "The accused then asked for keys of the safe. The gang members also told the couple that they know about their son and his daily schedule. They threatened to kill him if the complainant refused to hand over the jewellery," the police said.
The couple gave them keys following which the accused took away Rs 50,000 cash, gold jewellery and diamond worth Rs 2.49 lakh. "Choksi said in his complaint that the gang was speaking in Hindi. After tying the couple and gagging their mouth with piece of cloth, they fled from the spot," the police added.
Choksi also told the police that one of the accused hit his wife with the revolver butt on her head causing minor injury. Apart from four mobile phones worth Rs 1.50 lakh, the gang also took away CCTV digital video recorder installed in the bungalow.
